Is there a God?
Some people say, “I don’t believe that there is a God in this universe because I cannot see Him.” However, the things that are visible to the human eye are very limited. For example, we cannot see the wind, the air, electricity, electrons, neutrons, protons, and nuclei; nonetheless, no one denies their existence.

Consider this: religion exists only among mankind; animals and plants have no religion at all. This is because only human beings possess a spirit, which is able to perceive spiritual things, as a Chinese saying also claims, “Man is the spirit of all creatures.” The Bible verses in Romans 1:19-20 also state, “because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse.” Indeed, the real God who created the universe reveals Himself to men in two ways so that men may know Him.

(1) We have a spirit which can contact God.

When God created man, He put an organ in him so that he is able to know God and communicate with Him, which is the spirit. This is exactly what the verse mentioned above says, “because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them.” We can perceive things of God through the spirit, just as a radio can receive signals from the radio station through its receiver and play beautiful music. However, many people often neglect the feelings and functions of the spirit; often times, it is only in a desperate situation that they seek God’s help. Men are different from animals, for example, when a dog is in trouble, it does not know how to pray to heaven or seek help from idols. Conversely, men often look for salvation from a divine being. However because men are fallen, trapped in sin and blinded by the devil, they make figures to represent God, and bow down to worship these man-made idols. Through this, they are enslaved by the devil and constantly live in fear.

There are some people who will not confess with their mouth that there is a God, but their heart tells them that He truly exists. Even Confucius said that there is a divine being who watches over everyone, and there is another Chinese saying which states that there is a sovereign One in this universe.

(2) All things prove the existence of God

The God who created all things not only placed the spirit in us for us to know Him, but through the entire universe that He has created, He also reveals Himself and manifests His glory, just as the Bible says, “The heavens declare the glory of God; And the firmament shows His handiwork.” (Psalm 19:1). Indeed, the birth, existence, movement, order, marvel and magnitude of His creation manifest the Creator’s existence and His greatness.

The existence of a tall building implies that a team of architects and engineers helped design and build it. The transportation network of a busy city requires a traffic control system to regulate the vehicles. Much more, the infinite universe, with billions of planets in perpetual motion in their definite courses, gives evidence to the careful design and creation by the Creator. The Bible says, “All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made” (John 1:3) and “upholding all things by the word of His power” (Hebrews 1:3).

Science testifies for God.

The ex-Director of the NASA Headquarters once said, “Before science really advanced, we boasted that we could eventually do away with God. However, as we make more and more scientific discoveries, we can no longer deny that science proves the existence of God.” A survey indicated that of the 300 most famous scientists of our times, about 85% are Christians. These include people like Sir Isaac Newton and Albert Einstein. Even Charles Darwin, who initally came up with the theory of evolution, later repented and believed in Jesus; sadly, when he wanted to retract his theory, it was too late. In addition, the three astronauts who first landed on the moon in 1969 were all Christians. Upon their return to the earth, one of them went all over the world to preach the gospel from the perspective of science.

Some people hold the view that the universe was created out of a big explosion. This theory does not agree with scientific logic and is only a supposition, hypothesis and extrapolation that has not been proven. In fact, scientific studies require a theory to be tested and proven correct before it becomes a fact. The “Big Bang” theory has no scientific proof and is thus more of a superstitious belief than science. Consider this: if there were no matter before the creation of the universe, where would the explosion come from? Furthermore, explosions create chaos and not order, just as a city that has just experienced an earthquake will not turn out to be a more prosperous city. Therefore, the universe, which is so orderly and regulated, great and beautiful, cannot be the outcome of a big explosion. It is no wonder that scientists today have rejected the “Big Bang” theory.

Others say, “The universe comes from Mother Nature, in whom I believe, but I do not believe in God.” This is in fact a superstitious, self-deceiving contradiction which treats Mother Nature as God. Hence, God’s existence is an undeniable fact.

Actually, the God who created all things not only revealed Himself through His creation, He also sent His beloved Son Jesus into the world to be our Saviour. Even when we were still fallen and lost in sin, Jesus came personally and sought us. He was nailed onto the cross for our sins (as affirmed by history) to save us from God’s judgment in the future and from the bondage of sin today, so that we can be reconciled with God and enjoy His great love all our life long.

Dear friends, the God of love has prepared a wonderful salvation for you. If you would just turn to Him humbly, believe and accept Him as your Saviour, you shall be saved forever and enjoy the presence of God in your life. Please follow the paragraph below and pray aloud with a sincere heart and allow Jesus to come into you to be your Saviour.

“Oh Lord Jesus, I believe and accept You as my Saviour. Please forgive me of all my sins and come into me to give me Your life and Holy Spirit. I entrust my whole life to You. Thank You for saving me. I pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.”
